Vintage Pickup Sketch and Paint

This was a fun drawing as Im using the Duke 209 fountain pen with a fude nib.

I was not very good at controlling it as I feel awkward lifting and tilting the pen to an angle in order to have the stroke that I want. But with line variations, it really made the sketch more interesting. I am using the Atramentis Document ink Black for this sketch.

There are quite a few range of Atramentis ink and you need to get the correct one so that it won’t fade when you layer water over it. Document ink is the one you should choose.

For this sketch, I have given the vintage pickup a background so that it will looks more interesting . I am using indigo from Shinhan brand. The rest of the color Im using Winsor and Newton Cotman and Schminke . I love to mix colours using different brand.

By the way, this sketchbook is the normal sketchbook without any cotton contents . It cost me about USD 1.80 which is so affordable. I love the size which is 20 x 20 cm which give me ample space to work on with my subject.

It took a long time for the indigo paint to dry on the paper as maybe I applied too much paint on it.

Dinosaur Drawing and Painting

This is the dinosaur drawing that I have completed recently using Pentel brush pens. The pens are great to use as they can create different variations of thick and thin lines. It makes the subject so interesting. This was drawn from a reference photo from our collection of dinosaur books. Frankly speaking, I love the strokes than those disposal gel pens. Talking about the paper, I am using Etchr Lab Sketchbook. It is a 100% cotton sketchbook and the paper is very dry that I need to repeatedly apply more water otherwise it will create ugly dry brush stroke.

I have created 2 videos on the drawing and painting of Dinosaur. You may check them out.

MAKING DIY STICKERS WITHOUT STICKER PAPERS

Finally back for some updates. I am quite caught up in youtube videos batch making and going to update here as well.

This was quite an older stuff that I want to put up here to share my latest updates. Today I am going to show you guys how I DIY some of the stickers which I made for my sketchbook without STICKER PAPERS.

This is really a fun mini project and till today , they are still very strong sticking onto my sketchbook cover 🙂

  1. First of all, do some doodling with painting on card stock paper. I am painting my doodles using watercolor paint.

2. I decided to make 3 of the images which can be found inside my mini sketchbook

3. Cut them out in rectangle or square shape depends on the design of your doodle image.

Not to worry about how big or small or even irregular shape as eventually you will need to trim according to the

image shape.

4. Use scotch tape to stick onto the top image and trim to size

5. Do the same for every doodle image. On the other side of the sticker, use double side tape to stick behind.

Trimming is required on the double side tape.  And they are good to go!

So that when they are ready for use, just peel the double side tape and just paste it wherever you like 🙂

Simple Sketch with NO ERASE ( A effective way )

Many beginner artist or sketcher like myself always culitivate a habit to always draw a line and then erase and then draw and erase. Who doesn’t wish for a clean and flawless sketchbook? This in long term can cause  detrimental to your confident level in your future sketching.

There is a simple way to train yourself on this confident drawing using a simple tool which is the writing pad. It is affordable which you can grab with less than USD 20.

There are ways like using those ” No erase challenge ” to force yourself intentionally not to use the eraser. There is no hard rule on this.

To use the no erase method on the writing pad for me is effective as the concept is simple. There is no way for you to undo the previous step once you have lay the lines on the pad. The only way to erase the whole thing is just a reset button which will remove ALL of your sketch in 1 second.

This way it will discourage to erase it as you really wish to keep the rest of the sketch. It will force you to train your eyes on the object and to be careful before laying your first line on the pad. This is actually a good way for practising purpose.

I hope this maybe beneficial to you. I have make a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aHECKzLooA&feature=shareon this and you may check it out.

Daiso SGD2 12 set Watercolour

I have tried out this set of $2 12 Set watercolour from Daiso recently. It was not a big investment but wanting to test how was the performance.

Each tube contains 6ml of paint. Not a big tube though, but just SGD2 and it will not going to break your bank.

The paint contains gum arabic , paint, water and stabilizer . Other than that, the tube itself does not have much information

about the pigment use.

The paint are quite dry with some dry crumbs coming out when you open the tube. I have done a short review on the colours on my youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_f5OQuimRg&t=87s

Not all colours are use in this demo video . Just a simple water colour for Pikachu.

Overall for the experience on this water colour was not that great. You will need to overlay a few layers paint to get that slightly intensity and brown was exceptionally weak which I had try mutli-layers which still not able to get that that expected brown that I want. I had tried red , brown, yellow and black and most of the colours here are more to the semi opaque side.

This will be more recommended to use on simple art with children and for some causal painting. This may be a good gift for children’s goodie bag gift and I am sure they will have lots if fun playing with the colours.

Sketches of Arapaima

It was been a while after my last upload of my sketches. I am still trying to finish up my cruise trip sketch and will be releasing it soon.

Today, we went to a special place which is located at west side of Singapore . This place is a small canteen where the owner had built an enclosure just for his 4 huge arapaima (巨龙). Their length are at least 1.5 m long and they looked really hungry.

I used both Daniel Smith and Winsor and newton cotman Payne’s grey. The medium was 25% cotton , 200 gsm monologue sketchpad. I love their 140 gsm sketchbook all the while . But for this watercolour sketch pad There were quite a few cons which I didn’t quite like. I will go into that once I finished up the sketchpad.

Colour used:

Daniel Smith : Sap Green , Olive Green, French Ultramarine , Burnt Sienna , Pyrrol Scarlet

Winsor and Newton : Payne’s Grey

My packing list for upcoming family cruise holidays

This is probably the most single items I have drawn so far.Recently I have bought the Hahnemuhle watercolour sketchbook to bring for my upcoming cruise trip . This will be my main sketchbook for my family trip which consist of 60 pages watercolour pages. The thickness is  200 gsm paper.I love the texture of the paper though I am not sure if there is any cotton contents in it. I bought this around S$23(USD 16.90) after 10 % discount at the local art supply store

For this packing list , I am trying out the Daniel Smith essential water colour set.

After trying it out , now I understand why this so well liked by artists. I have no issue in blending the colour. And the colour just glide smoothly on the paper.

Look at the mixture and it blends so well ( ultramarine with burnt siennna-bought it separately).

The colours are so vibrant and I will be using more often on Daniel Smith water colour.I will not be bringing any watercolour onboard as most probably I will not have time to do it especially with 2 young children. What I will do is to bring the drawing tools and the sketch book and that is all!  It will be much easier to manage and to draw when I get back to the cabin after a day activities.

Back to packing list , it looks overwhelming, but most little items will be packed into small bags. The main bigger items probably will be the diapers and milk powder. I hope I am not over packing lol.

Anyway, I will be drawing the vacations map soon. See you soon!
